D.B.Tarpley's Amazing Ass Blog #8
Updated: Apr 28, 2018
Greetings people and peoplettes. “Ass to ass! Ass to ass! Ass to ass! Ass to ass!” No, this isn’t what you shout when you see Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson climbing up the inside of a chimney, backs pressed together on the set of Shanghai Noon 3: The Reckoning. Although that would be funny. No, this phrase, this chant, is familiar to anyone who has seen ‘Requiem for a Dream.’ It belongs to one of the most gut wrenching scenes, and one I believe which truly flips a mirror on the viewer. The scene, if you are unfamiliar with the piece, involves a heroin addicted pretty girl, played by Jennifer Connelly, who is forced to perform a live sex act with another woman in front of a bunch of leering shouting men. When asked what they want to see they all begin to shout, “Ass to ass! Ass to ass!” A huge double dong dildo is lubed up and the girls proceed to fulfill the request. While it is obviously painful on a physical level, the emotional pain displayed on Jennifer Connelly’s face speaks volumes and makes the scene rife with impact. As a male, I believe the reason the scene has stuck with me as potently as it has is because I can see myself in those lecherous old men. I would think any man could if they were honest with themselves. There is a side to all of us, an evil slobbering beast, which drives the porn industry. How and to what extent we control that beast makes us the men we are; but we all have it, each and every one - deep down inside us. And if there are some tears involved with our porn then even better. It all speaks to our animal side. How does this translate into storytelling in general? Pain… torment… suffering… something inside us all wants to see people, characters we can relate to, suffer in unique and unusual ways. We don’t want to see them have happy go lucky lives. That is just boring. Being a writer requires a special kind of cruelty. No one ever wants to read a story where Molly meets Max who is a great man and they marry and have 2 wonderful children and own a heroic dog named Marty who retrieves kittens from trees when he’s not licking cream cheese off Molly’s meat curtains. Well, actually I would quite like to read that. It sounds like it was just getting interesting. Right up my alley. Most people though need a problem, a crisis for their beloved characters to overcome. Some shit for them to get into. The more tears the better. I believe reading about others pain makes us all feel warm and cuddly inside. It makes us feel safe within our skin. And my book ‘Lick the Razor’ has all the pain you can handle. It should make you feel like a swaddled newborn baby once you are finished with it… like a swaddled newborn baby with SIDS. Until next time keep reading and have an amazing ass to ass day!
